Spring modelling

Is it possible to model something like this where the vector pulling on two springs is straight up so the springs are being pulled at an angle to their axis. I know this configuration can give a reaction force where it plateaus out at a constant force for a bit. I have an idea for something similar in a mechanism I'm designing. Thanks!!
PS Red lines are the springs

Yes, that is very simple to do, if I understand your inquiry correctly.

  • You can, but keep in mind you should set up the problem as nonlinear for accurate results if you expect large displacement. Main elements involved are rotating. Rotations---->NLGEOM.

    Check overall force balance.

For the NON-Symmetrical case (say, un-equal springs), a constant zero-displacement constraint acting 90 degrees to the load vector at its Pin (and lying within the mechanism plane) will cancel any lateral drift. This effectively models your Force vector travel as "straight up", kind of like travel along a sleeve/slide.

Note that iterating either on Vertical-Displacement or Force can produce equivalent results (perhaps after a bit of tinkering?).
