Geometry surfaces and selection of elements

How do I select a set of shell elements lying on a geometry surface?

    If I get your question, I would do the following:
    In Geometry, select a surface, then right-click and add surfaces to a new named selection.
    In Components & Materials, click on your named selection under Named Selections, then click the "Element" Icon (3rd over after Point, Surface), which will select the shells.
